There are several factors that influence when a baby arrives earlier. Premature babies are exposed to a number of health risks. Many times, problems that remain will affect the lives of newborns and families.

Many factors influence early birthIn the past decade, about 8,000 newborns have been born in Hungary every year, prematurely or with a low birth weight - read about the significance of the CSO.

Who are we called premature?

Newborns can be categorized into newborns based on the combination of pregnancy week and birth weight:
  • a mature premature baby who was born before the age of 37 but weighed at least 2500 grams;
  • a low birth weight baby who has given birth at 37 weeks and weighs less than 2500 grams
  • low birth weight, born at birth after 36 weeks but weighing less than 2500 grams
  • She is a mature, timely woman who has given birth to at least 2500 grams after the 36th week of pregnancy.
What Influences Early Childhood?

Maternal age

The frequency of early births and low births is influenced by the age of the mother: the likelihood of this occurring in young or older children is higher. At the same time, the differences between the age groups have become much smaller over the last 25 years. The most significant decline occurred in the oldest women, and women in their 20s showed a slight upward trend. It seems that medical advances have advanced beyond the age at which mothers can safely take children with less health risk.

Mother's family

When examining the mother's family status, both the low birth weight and early childbirth rates were the lowest in the family for family status in 2016 (7.3% and 8.4%, respectively). The birth rate of a baby under 2500 grams was the highest proportion, 10% of the expected. In non-marital family mothers, the incidence of low birth births was significantly higher than among marital mothers. Since 1990, there has been a significant improvement in non-marital family conditions. Before week 37, 9.5% of widows, 11% of wives and 12% of weddings were born. Non-marriages have improved to a smaller extent, but levels of marital status have also improved somewhat, while marital status is somewhat more common. Even in the prematurity and low birth weight sectors, 25-34 year-old women, and most of them married, are at the lowest risk. Unmarried women are predominantly found in younger, divorced, and married women, which are more common in older age groups, ie those with a higher birth rate and low birth weight.

Number of parents

The more children born in a family, the more likely it is that a newborn will be born with a birth weight of less than 2,500 grams, as well as being born prematurely. For the first and second children, there was no change in the past 25 years, although unequivocal improvement was observed for children of three or more; Compared to 1990, in 2016, the proportion of those who weighed less than 2,500 grams was significantly lower.
In the case of premature childhood, according to 2016 data, the first and second child have 8.5% and 8.3%, respectively, while the sixth child has 17%. In the case of the first and second children, the currency of early childhood increased slightly. All in all, the more children a woman gives birth to, the older, and the older the age group and the higher the proportion of those born with low weight, so the risk increases.

At birth, the proportion of small births and premature babies is significantly higher than that of all births. The twin twins are about 60%, and the triplets are almost all born under 2500 grams. Against this background, there are biological demographics rather than demographic reasons, and accordingly the value of the indicators remained at the same level throughout the period under review.

The mother's schooling

The higher the mother's educational attainment, the lower the birthrate under 2500 grams. This may also be due to the fact that younger mothers, due to their age, are only able to obtain lower schooling, but those under 14 years of age have a higher average low birth weight. Even in 2016, among those graduating from 8 classes, 13% had low birth weight, compared with only 6% among those with advanced degrees. In the case of early births, a similar correlation can be observed, with the drop in early schooling rate increasing with school performance. 10% of those who have completed 8 or less grades are 7.5% of those with a high school degree. From the analysis of the HCSO, it can be concluded that no significant improvement has occurred in the incidence of premature births and low birth births. The age of the mother is determinative, and the risk of preterm birth increases from young and old. However, in the case of mothers over the age of 30, the proportion of premature births and those born with low weight decreased, but the rate of birth decreased in the age group of 25 years. At school, it is clear that the higher the mother's education, the lower the incidence of early childhood education. Pregnancy loss and previous fetal losses are also a risk factor.Related Articles in Early Issues:
